New Horizons Ministry-Open to all, 50 and over
New Horizons Ministry meets once a month and is organized to provide an Environment of
fellowship, learning and social interaction through activities and Service for people age
50 and over. For information about New Horizons Ministry you may call Nils or Lois
Karlson.
New Horizons Brunch every Sunday following the 11 a.m. worship service.
New Horizons meets for brunch at a local restaurant. If you have any questions please

Take a Journey into magical Paradeland and experience a behind the scenes look at
Americans Thanksgiving Parade! Learn about the parades interesting history and
traditions, explore the 120,000 square foot storyland of floats, and see how the
award-winning artisans create the magic! Journey through our creative kingdom and see the
worlds largest collection of paper-mache heads and the costume shop where characters
come to life! The cost is $12 for the tour of the Detroit Parade Company.

New Horizons will travel to Waterville, Ohio (Near Toledo, Ohio) and will depart at 9 AM
from the Boll Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church. We will travel via cars to
Waterville, Ohio. Once we arrive in Waterville people will have a chance to see the some
of the unique shops which the town offers. Waterville is the home of Sculpture George
Carruth. At 12:00 oclock New Horizons will go to Smedlaps Smithy for lunch.
Smedlaps Smithy is a unique restaurant in Downtown Waterville. This restaurant
offers, quaint, comfortable atmosphere, complete with SLIDE, and a menu to please all,
with an emphasis on steaks. From burgers to Perch, there is something for all. At 1:30 PM
we will board the Blue Bird train for a 15 mile round trip on the tracks of the Toledo,
Lake Erie & Western Railway and Museum, Inc. The trip takes 60 minutes and includes a
spectacular views as you travel across Northwest Ohio. The cost for a ride on the Blue
Bird train is $10 plus we ask a donation of $7 towards those people who will be driving.
Lunch at Portofinos of Wyandotte and Diamond Jacks River Boat Tour of

New Horizons will meet in the Boll Fellowship Hall at 12 noon at First Presbyterian Church
and will depart to Wyandotte to Portofinos Italian Restaurant of Wyandotte.
Portofinos is located the Detroit River. Enjoy some fine Italian cuisine seafood,
and pasta or dinner salads, gourmet burgers, sandwiches and appetizers for every palate.
Lunch is on your own. We will then depart to Bishop Park in Wyandotte for a nostalgic
Bob-Lo Tour aboard the Diamond Jacks River Boat. How many of you remember Bob-Lo
Island? For almost 100 years thousands of people rode the famous Bob-Lo-Steamers Columbia
and Ste.Claire, ferries to enjoy a day of amusements, picnics, swimming and dancing on the
Canadian island of Bob-Lo. On the cruise to Bob-Lo youll view the new exclusive
island community of waterfront mansions, now only accessible to its residents by ferry. As
we will sail past, if you look closely, the last remnants of the once famous amusement
park can still be seen. Follow the same waters that the Bob-Lo Steamers once did. Along
the way you will pass ships, pleasure craft and miles of scenic coastline and waterways.
Enjoy sunny skies and cool breezes as you pass by the island and riverside landscapes of
Bob-Lo, Grosse Ile and Amherstberg. The tour highlights will include the Canadian
shoreline and wetlands, Fort Malden Historic site, Kings Navy Yard Park, Amherstberg
riverfront, the Canadian Coast Guard Station, the Island Marina, Bob-Lo Resort Community,
Bo-Lo Amusement Park, Bo-Lo Pavillion Building, the Livingston Shipping Channel and Light,
the Grosse lle James Vernor home, the Charles Asher home, and the 1906 Grosse lle
Lighthouse. Tickets are $17 and we ask for $5 for the drivers who will be taking people in

New Horizons Picnic

The grill will be ready and the hamburgers and hot dogs will be great as chef Ross Wagner
will have everything prepared. The New Horizons picnic will take place at the church in
the CLC. We will gather at 6:30 pm and you are asked to bring a dish to pass which will
include one of the following: an hors doeuvre, a side dish or a dessert. We will
have entertainment. Refreshments and paper supplies will be provided. You may sign up for
the New Horizons Picnic in the Boll Fellowship Hall or you may call the church office at
(248) 349-0911.
A Trip to See The Federal Reserve Bank

New Horizons will meet at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Entrance of First Presbyterian
Church and will travel to downtown Detroit to see the new Federal Reserve Bank.
This is one of the first Federal Offices built after 9/11 and contains the new 9/11
standards. You will have the opportunity to view the Cash Arena. You will also have the
opportunity to see the new building and hear about the new standards which will become
apart of every Federal Reserve Building in the United States. You will see a short movie
about how the Federal Reserve works and have an opportunity for question and answers.
After our tour we will have lunch at their cafeteria.
You may sign up in the Boll Fellowship Hall between the 9:30 and 11:00 oclock
worship services.
A Trip to See Morley Candy Company-Lunch - Thursday, October

New Horizons will travel to Clinton Twp. to see the Morley Candy Company. They say when
something is good it sticks around
that is why Sanders is proud to be a Michigan
tradition since 1875. The Morley candies are hand made here in Michigan at the Morley
Chocolate Factory. The Morley Candy Company was founded in 1919, and is famous for its
peanut butter blocks and assorted chocolates. Morley Candy owns and markets the Sanders
Confectionary line, which is famous for its Bumpy Cakes, sundae topping and ice cream,
particularly in and around Southeast Michigan.
We will meet at the Boll Fellowship Hall at 9:20 AM and will depart for Clinton Twp. We
will arrive at Morley Candy Company at 10:30 AM. After our tour we will stop and have
lunch. (Lunch is on your own and look for details in the Out of The Ordinary.) We
ask for a $5 donation for the drivers who will be transporting us. You may sign up for
this trip in the Boll Fellowship Hall in between services.

A Christmas Walk of Meadowbrook Hall

New Horizons will meet in Boll Fellowship Hall and will drive to Oakland University for
the Christmas Walk at Meadowbrook Hall. Meadowbrook Hall is a magnificent 110 room,
Tudor-revival style mansion; former residence of Matilda Dodge Wilson, widow of auto
pioneer John Dodge, and her second husband, Alfred Wilson. Meadow Brook Hall is considered
an American castle and is not only a magnificent place but at Christmas Time is simply
beautiful. The home still has the original furnishings of this 1920s home.
